Job Title: Facilities Technician Painter
Location: South Campus Commons at The University of Maryland
Reports to: Assistant Director of Facilities
Salary: $24.00-$26.00 an hour and a comprehensive benefits package
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary
The Facilities Technician Painter’s duties include but are not limited to light interior and exterior maintenance to prepare buildings and equipment for painting. Paint all surfaces both exterior and interior that have been prepped for painting. Duties are performed at South Campus Commons as assigned by the Assistant Director- Facilities. Serves as a member of the facilities team in completing projects according to instruction and established procedures. Also serves on the on-call snow removal team for South Campus Commons and The Courtyards. Projecting a customer focused and professional image through interactions with all internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Make repairs to drywall, sealing cracks, filling holes, etc.
- Scrape, repair, sand and paint as needed, interior walls and ceilings.
- Scrape, repair, sand and paint as needed, exterior walls and trim.
- Prepare walls and hang wallpaper.
- Sand, stain, and varnish natural wood finishes.
- Maintain assigned tools, supplies and other equipment in a neat, clean, orderly manner.
- Set up paint supply inventory and maintain inventory at par levels established by the supervisors
- Report needs for additional supplies, equipment, etc. with adequate notice to assure that they are available when needed.
- Maintain required work records and completes other written reports.
- Assist with the removal of snow when assigned by supervisor
- Assist with cleanup of areas that may become damaged due to floods, fires, and other disasters and as needed, make temporary repairs to the damaged area.
- Perform other maintenance projects as required and assigned by the supervisor
- Regular participation in supervision meetings and team meetings for the sharing of ideas, feedback and department planning.
- Utilize opportunities provided for growth and professional development; this includes ongoing participation in in-service training.
- Express ideas, suggestions, and concerns in a timely and appropriate manner, using established channels and opportunities to seek resolution.

Education/Experience Required:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 2-3 years’ experience with interior / exterior painting and wall repair
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Must be proficient with the use of hand and power tools
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs
- Ability to navigate up/down stairs and up/down ladder safety
