Job Title: Associate Director of Operations

Location:  The University of Akron – Campus Housing

Reports to: Director of Operations

Salary: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year and a comprehensive benefits package 

FLSA Status: Exempt 

Summary

The Associate Director of Operations, under the leadership of the Director of Operations, plays a key role in supporting the overall functionality and service delivery of Campus Housing at The University of Akron. This position ensures operational efficiency across multiple functional areas including compliance, conference services, facilities, front desk operations, and staff supervision. The Associate Director partners with university stakeholders to support staff training and incident reporting while ensuring alignment with both university and COCM policies. The role also involves coordination of conference programs, oversight of facility conditions and security systems, and leadership of front desk and administrative staff. This position is instrumental in fostering a student-centered environment that emphasizes accountability, service excellence, and operational integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration & Compliance:

  • Partner with university departments to support staff training and incident reporting. 
  • Ensure alignment with university and COCM policies and procedures. 
  • Conference Operations 
  • Oversee the promotion, coordination, and execution of summer conference programs.
  • Supports oversight of contracting, billing, and collection processes related to conference services.
  • Coordinates room assignments and reservations for conference guests.
  • Assists logistical support for conference move-ins and move-outs. 

Facilities Management: 

  • Collaborates with the Director to assess building conditions and report facility concerns.
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of the security camera system.
  • Supports summer turn planning and facilitate transitions between academic and guest housing periods

Front Desk & Community Operations:

  • Oversee front desk operations across residential communities, including scheduling, staff training, and daily management.
  • Manage mail and package distribution systems.
  • Ensures proper use and oversight of front desk software and filing systems.
  • Provide support for card access systems, key control, inventory tracking, and audit procedures.

Staffing & Supervision:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise full-time Office Coordinator and front desk student staff. 
  • Promote a student-centered approach to facility services and support. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and service excellence. 

Additional Duties 

  • Participate in an after-hours on-call duty rotation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned supporting operations and the campus housing experience. 

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mid-to-high paced. The noise level is usually moderate. 

Physical Demands:

Education/Experience/SkillsRequired:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • 3-4 years experience in on-campus student housing operations including conference services and front desk operations and service.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills and a commitment to student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student housing management software.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, computer, telephone).
  • Experience supervising full-time office administrative and student staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Be able to participate in an after-hours on-call duty rotation and respond to the University of Akron campus within 30 minutes.
