Location: 929 Apartments, Johns Hopkins Medical Campus

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor 

Salary: $14.00 per hour and competitive benefits package, including health benefits, dental benefits, vision coverage, and 401K.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Summary

Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM) and 929 Apartments have formed an outstanding partnership focused on providing an excellent living experience for students attending Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. COCM believes that the right Porter will be instrumental for the continued success of the community and of this partnership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize common areas which includes halls, stairways, public restrooms, offices, lounges, elevators, trash rooms/chutes, corridors, etc. 
  • Clean and sanitize public restrooms, including replenishing bathroom supplies. 
  • Sweep, scrub, and mop floors as well as vacuuming rugs and carpeting. 
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture. 
  • Collect and dispose of trash. Pick up debris and recyclables inside and outside the building. 
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, door panels, and sills. 
  • Perform minor wall repair, appropriate painting skills, and general common area cosmetic repairs.
  • Completes light-duty resident work orders for light bulbs, clogged toilets, filter changes, smoke detector batteries, and blinds.
  • Use and maintain assigned equipment: dry carpet extractor, pressure washer, vacuums, brooms, mops, ladders and squeegees, etc. 
  • Follow instructions and safety procedures regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. 
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Some weekend hours on occasion, and scheduled accordingly.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Education/Experience/Skills Required:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 
  • 1-2 years’ experience of custodial experience with a willingness to learn general maintenance tasks.  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication. 
  • Possess strong customer service skills. 
  • Ability to move and lift to 50 lbs. 
  • Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
